For the second straight week, Salem came away with three champions as sophomore Matt Adams (113), junior Tristen Cabinta (160) and sophomore Beau Dillon (195) all came away with titles.
Adams controlled defending MOC champ Jonathan Austin of White Mountains, 6-2, for his second straight state crown and is now 38-5 for the season. Cabinta won his third straight title, 6-2, over impressive Alvirne freshman Kyle Gora, and Dillon (37-7) survived a tense bout with a 5-4 decision over Plymouth’s Troy Johnson.
Cabinta, now 40-4, said that the MOC titles aren’t getting any easier but he’s eager to better last year’s fifth-place finish at New England. And he’s excited about the Blue Devils’ season in 2018-19.
“Matt Adams was awesome and I think our team has really come together,” said Cabinta. “I think we’re going to do some real damage next year.”
Topping it off for Salem Saturday, co-coaches Nick Eddy and Wes Decker were named New Hampshire Coaches of the Year.
Salem’s Tristen Cabinta defeated Kyle Gora of Alvirne in the
160-pound match to win his third straight state championship.
Cabinta was one of three Blue Devils to win titles Saturday.
